How to Build a User-Generated Photo or Video Contest for Free

by Sandra Fathi on April 25, 2008

A friend of mine sent me a request to view and vote for her video in a contest on www.FueltheChange.com. It is a video contest offering a prise of $10,000 to participants that create the video with the most votes that promotes the use of ethanol fuel. We’ve had a few clients looking to create similar contests and they are always fearful of the technical aspects of developing and maintaining this type of site. That’s why I was so happy to see the little logo at the top of the Fuel the Change contest that said ‘powered by Votigo’.

Votigo has a free platform for creating user-generated video and photo contests and promotions. It also has commercial versions that can be completely customised for a fee. The free version is quite nifty, but you’ll have to agree to advertising running on the site. For $5-$8K a company can have a custom branded version with a little logo recognition for Votigo. For a private label version, it will run more depending upon the features and customization.
