I got an email today “Calling all Government IT Rockers!” At first, I thought it was a joke, and then I realized that this is a real event soliciting folks to join the 3rd Annual Battle of the Government IT Bands. According to the website:
“GIT Rockin’ is government IT’s third annual battle of the bands. Hosted by 1105 Government Information Group, this friendly competition allows executives — from government and industry alike — to network with peers, colleagues and spouses in a high-energy, out-of-the-industry-norm environment. GIT Rockers come out and showcase your alter egos and talents……enjoy some of the industry’s best bands at one of Washington’s most historic, cultural landmarks.”
It’s also for a good cause - all proceeds from GIT Rockin’ ticket and band voting sales will be donated to the United Services Organization of Metropolitan Washington (USO-Metro).
I think that’s smart marketing, good PR and sounds like much more fun than a traditional government IT conference!
