So, you already have a LinkedIn profile for you and your company. Are you making the most of it? LinkedIn is the number one site for business networking but many marketers aren’t paying attention to all of the features and functions. Although it may not be the sexy social media new kid on the block, it has rich capabilities and your target audience is using it on a regular basis.
Individuals on LinkedIn:
1. Add news feeds to your profile for a steady stream of fresh content
2. Automatically update your blog on LinkedIn (there’s an app for that!)
3. Update status (directly or through micro blogging tools such as Twitter)
4. Conduct polls (free within your network, small fee outside your network)
5. Join groups (free and fun – good networking opps)
6. Share slide presentations (there’s an app for that too!)
LinkedIn recently expanded its Groups function to enable social media features, including:
1. Discussion groups
2. News forums
3. Job postings
4. Post/Invite for events
Companies can create their own groups or actively participate in existing groups that represent prospects or customers. By joining preexisting groups, you can gain exposure in those arenas. Also, most groups allow you to contact members directly. This can help in the sales process. In addition, you can post news and information, respond to questions, publish articles and actively participate in other group activities.
Additional opportunities for engagement on LinkedIn include:
- Research Studies – Leverage the LinkedIn community to conduct market research
- Polls – Poll people in your network or in the LinkedIn community
- Answers – Ask/answer questions by those in your network or in the LinkedIn community
- Advertise – Advertise on LinkedIn with display or text ads.
- Event Listings – List an event (webinar, seminar, professional development, networking etc.)
